William Brown
Bells and Clave
With over 40 years of experience as a percussionist, William Brown has had the privilege of playing with some of the most respected musicians and engineers in the industry. From an early age, he was exposed to the rich musical traditions of STAX Records, Ardent Recording Studio, and Royal Studio, where his father earned multiple Grammy awards and nominations.
Throughout his career, William has performed in numerous concerts and festivals across the United States and abroad, including notable venues such as the Double Door in Chicago and the Vortex Festival in California. He has also played at Pierre’s Entertainment Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, as well as various locations in Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida, Japan, Australia, Korea, and other parts of the country. Over the years, William has collaborated with a diverse range of artists and genres, including Chris Logger Band, Derek Trucks, Here Comes the Mummies, The Wailers, Moe Z (a member of Morris Day and The Time), as well as country, pop, and R&B musicians. As an auxiliary percussionist, his contribution to their music has been to add depth, texture, and rhythm. However, Williams’s passion for music goes beyond performing.
His ultimate goal as a teaching artist is to educate and inspire others. He believes in the importance of passing on the knowledge and skills that he has acquired throughout his career, and is dedicated to helping others advance in their musical journey. In everything that he does, William abides by the motto, “the music comes first.” He believes that being honest with oneself is essential to creating and producing authentic and meaningful music.
